I love walking along the beach and always take my dog, Buddy, with me. The sunsets and sunrises are stunning, and every year I’m lucky enough to witness the whales migrating south—sometimes swimming right alongside me as they breach and play, keeping pace with my walk. It’s absolutely incredible. I’ve even been lucky enough to see turtles hatching and making their way to the sea—twice! There’s always something special to take in, such as dolphins playing in the waves, schools of fish darting through the water, eagles soaring overhead—not to mention happy kids and dogs enjoying the off-leash area. It’s all pure magic.
I also love the offshore days when the surf is breaking beautifully and my husband and kids are out catching waves. They always come in full of energy, chatting about the waves they caught. On perfect days, I still join them on my bodyboard (feeling like I’m 25 again!).
Another favourite thing to do is strolling down to Peregian Square to grab some takeaway and enjoy it on a picnic table in the park or while laying out a blanket in the square. The cafes and restaurants are always buzzing with great energy and people-watching is part of the charm. The pub is a standout too—the food is fabulous, the beer is cold and on tap, and there’s often live music playing.
My family has endless great memories of Peregian Park—my kids playing in the playground, skating and scooting at the skate bowl and along the paths, climbing trees, playing games on the grass with friends, and enjoying BBQs or takeaway together.
